Part-time UK jobs could help economic recovery

March 8, 2010

People looking for UK Jobs should consider part-time roles, according to one expert, who said that doing so can help to provide financial stability for families and bolster business in the country.

John Philpott, chief economic advisor for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said that taking on part-time work can help ease money troubles.

"For some if it is the difference between a part-time job and being unemployed then in a sense that alleviates what could be the full impact of the recession, because at least people are getting [an] income," he stated.

The expert added that as a temporary measure it is a viable alternative to fulltime work but could result in a drop in living standards over a prolonged period.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the number of part-time workers who could not find a full-time UK Job
began to increase in the first quarter of 2005, over three years before the first economic contraction.
